About Luke

  • Luke's Gospel is written by the same author as the Acts of the Apostles.  Luke's Gospel is like part 1 of a two volume work, and Acts is part 2.

  • Luke actually states that he was not an eyewitness to the events recorded in his Gospel (check out the opening paragraph in Luke's Gospel 1:4).

  • Luke writes for Theophilus, presumably a patron for Luke.

  • Luke's community were Gentile (non-Jewish).

  • Luke's community had extremes of wealth - from those who were very rich to those who were very poor.  Luke consistently gives a message that he has no problem with anyone who is read - as long as they as using their resources to provide for those in need.

  • Luke makes some geographical errors in his writing, so he clearly did not have a high degree of local geographical knowledge.
