Teaching the Gospels

Luke's Gospel is written by the same author as the Acts of the Apostles.  Luke's Gospel is like part 1 of a two volume work, and Acts is part 2.  

Luke actually states that he was not an eyewitness to the events recorded in his Gospel (check out the opening paragraph in Luke's Gospel 1:4).

Luke writes for Theophilus, presumably a patron for Luke.

Luke's community were Gentile (non-Jewish).

Luke's community had extremes of wealth - from those who were very rich to those who were very poor.  Luke consistently gives a message that he has no problem with anyone who is read - as long as they as using their resources to provide for those in need.

Luke makes some geographical errors in his writing, so he clearly did not have a high degree of local geographical knowledge.
